A land of polders and rivers – A long way from home

The sun was setting, the bright light blinded me and and covered the land under a blanket of light.
The little that I could distinguish, seemed far away and difficult to reach…

In all its simplicity, I find this a photo that tells a story. A lonely farm in a vast landscape, only a single tree and some shrubs provide shelter.
I took this photo in 2015, in the countryside near my hometown in the Netherlands. It was around the time my wife and I decided to move to a small farmhouse in northwestern Jutland, Denmark. So the story in this photo has become my story (and vice versa). This photo became a symbol for our plans. ‘A long way from home’, in the meaning that it took another 4 years before we could finally move into the old, small yellow farmhouse in Denmark …

‘A long way from home’ is a photo in the series ‘A land of polders and rivers’, part of the gallery ‘Untouched land‘.
